Internet in Afghanistan
By: St. Louise De Marillac
The Internet in Afghanistan is severely limited. Many people don't know how to read or are very poor, therefore, you wouldn't find that the Internet is as developed as it is in the western world. The government keeps a close eye on the Internet in Afghanistan. If you post an opinion or make a website that is speaking against the Islam religion or the government of Afghanistan, you can get into serious trouble, or even worse, be executed.
Afghanistan has realized that the Internet is very important economic-wise, but they still keep a close eye on what is posted.

Girls Only Internet Cafe in Kabul
But things may be changing. In Kabul, the capital of Afghanistan, they opened a girls-only Internet cafe. Girls don't have as many rights as boys do in Afghanistan, so this is very important for them, to be equal.
The people who made the Internet cafe made it only for girls because in other Internet cafes girls aren't allowed, or they might be teased for using the computer along with men. The Internet cafe for girls is still very dangerous though, they receive many threats from the Taliban, and the laws in Afghanistan don't protect women much at all.
